Is it illegal for my employer to check my email with out my consent?

I believe my employer has been going in to my company email with out my consent. Is there anything I can do to stop this? Are they breaking the law?

Not if it's email received or sent from or through the company's mail servers or email account(s). The company has a legal and ethical right to know how their employees are representing their image.





Generally speaking, you have no privacy rights to anything you do with your employer's computer.





If you are using your own computer to send or receive email at the company's account, they still have the right to read that email.





No electronic communication you send in the course of your employment, or personal email that is sent using their equipment or email accounts, is private.
Reply:If you use your e-mail for business related communications, you would be hard pressed to make an argument for privacy concerning your e-mails. Also, if the company provides the e-mail account they have a right to monitor it whether you are using your own computer or not.
Reply:No it's is his computer on his property, and you are emailing and surfing on his time. Many companies do have a tracking system set up for just this reason. Company email is just that, it belongs to the company..........sorry.

If they were getting into a personal e-mail that you had never given them access to, that would be different.
Reply:If its an email that your company uses they can check it at any point to makes sure your working and not just playing around.
